This year's Mid-Autumn Festival will fall on 22 September, but bakeries here in HK have already started putting out their specialties since early July! (Whoaa, competition is surely intense...)
Here are a few snowskin mooncakes with funky & "innovative" fillings I've tasted this year:
Filling: Mango & Chestnut Paste - hm.... ah-ha
According to the official website of this brand, the filling of this Crispy Devil is made from 70% Valrhona chocolate
(... yeah right....!)
Strawberry Jam and Mung Bean Paste
The verdict: Strawberry Jam and Mung Bean Paste don't like each other
The verdict: Strawberry Jam and Mung Bean Paste don't like each other
I guess I'd better stick to traditional mooncakes...

I love mooncakes and can't wait to hear more about the festival. Please post pictures! I'm imagining how exciting it must be.
Wow, look at all these amazing mooncakes!
See, it take foodies-in-the-know like you to remind us that it's mooncake time! Hmmm...I think this calls for a trip into Milan to see if I can find the molds. I love mooncakes!
Oh, I didn't know that mooncake festival is next month! I must look out for it. Hope to learn to make some. That Devil mooncake looks very interesting. I think I still prefer the salted egg mooncakes.
I've never had a moon cake, but I find them so beautiful. I'd love to try that devil one :)
*kisses* HH
snowskin = 冰皮? 南方人冰雪不分!
Hi all!
Christine, haha, I'll try, thanks!
Natasha, to confess, I'm not very into mooncakes, LOL!

I can't believe it's almost mooncake time already too. I love how there are so many varieties. I can't get that in the US. They only have the regular ones.
"Strawberry jam and mung bean don't like each other" LOL!!!
Fun post Kenny! I think Kris might want to try that chocolate devil one :)
Already?! Time flies...I want that mango and chestnut one!
I was just in HK and bought some of Maxim's mooncakes. Can't wait to try them when I get home to Chiang Mai! (I haven't tried them yet because I've been eating so much during my trip!!) : P
Hm, interesting! I think I would like to try some traditional mooncakes. Where can I find some recipes?
Alice, why didn't you let me know that you're coming!??!!??!! ;-(

Beautiful! Wow! I've never had one but I'll definitely go for that chocolate one. But they seem too pretty to eat!
Love your beautiful blog & those mooncakes look delicious (except for the mung bean one:). I just signed up to follow you - stop by and visit sometime at www.stephaniesavorsthemoment.com. Looking forward to your next delicious post - Cheers!
bwaahahaha! i like your review. nothing i hate more than brands adding a tiny bit of expensive ingredients and jacked up the price of normal yummy stuff, and...most of the time, you can't even taste the so-called fancy ingredients! Grrr
lols strawberry and mung beans...lols
I adore them, especially the fancy patterns you cam get.
Great stuff! I keep learning new things every time I come back to your blog.
