Rainier Cherry

The lover and I found these Rainier cherries in a fruit store when we were walking home from our oyster feast. According to wikipedia, Rainer Cherry is a hybrid of the Bing and Van cultivars.

The skin colour of these Rainiers is yellow/golden and pink

These cherries were very sweet, but quite pricey too. HK$68/lb (approx. US$9/lb)

Unlike red cherries, the flesh of Rainier Cherry is yellow and the juice is colourless

I personally prefer the mahogany red Bing cherries, coz I think they are richer in flavour.

I have seen these but never tried them. Like you, I mostly like dark berries. YOu know what they say, "the darker the berry, the sweeter the juice" :D
Have a wonderful weekend.
*kisses* HH

Give me bing, baby! Sometimes I feel people buy expensive fruit for prestige sake, but I agree with you go for taste and forget the fruit bling.

I love all types of cherries but of course the sweeter the better.

These are gorgeous! I love Rainier cherries (reminds me of home, they're grown in WA state, just south of Vancouver)

I've heard so much about these and haven't tried them. I usually like the dark sour cherries to cook with but sweeter cherries to eat - so these sound good!

I adore bing cherries too, but all sweet cherries are good to me. $9/lb is expensive!

I have tried these but still prefer bing cherries :)

I enjoy Rainier cherries but $9US/lb is quite a price to pay! But then again, I can think of several fruits from Asia for which I'd pay top dollar to find anywhere near me here. 8-)

I had no idea that the rainier cherries were a hybrid cherry. Nice to know. Rainier cherries are not really available here in the southeast but, I have experienced them in teh Pacific Northwest and I really enjoyed them.
